A Modern “Quilting Bee”?

January 17, 2022 by elizabethahomar@gmail.com Leave a Comment

A group of friends and I decided to get together one a month and do an old-fashioned quilting bee. Except, only one of us knows how to quilt. But we still wanted to get together, so we decided we would each bring a craft to work on.

And snacks.

Don’t forget the snacks.

I was super excited, except I’m not crafty. Like, not at all. And I had nothing to work on. I decided to teach myself embroidery, like the ladies in Regency stories do. I figure it would be fun to add little personal flourishes to scarves, gloves, etc.

So, I brought a small sampler, its directions, and YouTube. I figured, the ladies in the Regency didn’t have YouTube, and I did. I had to have an advantage.

Yeah, it ended as you expected. After four hours, my attempt did NOT look like this.

More like this.

I might show you a picture of it someday, but right now, I am too embarrassed to show my husband. And definitely not my kids.

Really makes me appreciate the skill that went into those lovely textiles.
